Sonic, a collection plucked from 15 years of his archives, is Hedi Slimane’s first photographic exhibition since his reemergence at Saint Laurent. Portraits of heroic figures along the lines of Lou Reed and Amy Winehouse sit alongside fragments and moments set in early 2000s London and contemporary California. Images of quiet melancholy and exuberant youth offers a glimpse into Slimane’s fascination with rock and roll, and present the mythos he has spun through Saint Laurent. Sonic is more than just an archive of the distant legend of rock and roll. It is a reminder, that fashion is more than that distant creature on the runway; it dresses those on the street, it helps them find a culture, and it is capable of returning to us what we once thought lost. In this issue, Hedi Slimane presents an excerpt representational of the passion and energy of Sonic.
