A plant can provide companionship to empty walls, lonely desks, and even a lonely heart. We are not talking complicated garden varieties, but plants of the hardy, low-maintenance sort that easily uplift a barren corner in your room. But a splash of water and a beam of sunlight on the regular isn’t quite enough, as our verdant friends flourish best under a conscientious eye. A mindful owner may spend weeks studying their plant, carefully measuring out water and sunlight against temperature changes while monitoring for signs of growth. This is a patient entity requiring a patient undertaking; no given plant adheres to any one rulebook, least of all a plant-owner who has to negotiate their living style and environment with their plant. But what is certain on all fronts is that one needs to cultivate patience, diligence and responsibility: a process of nurture that goes both ways.
