There are only so many perfumes, and consequently, only so many scents people are willing to wear. To customize your olfactory signature and prevent scent-based faux pas, we recommend layering perfumes. Perfume formulas result in varying dry-down times, so layering is a good way to differentiate your scent throughout the day. Of course, this takes some experimentation. Consider laying the groundwork with a fresh, clean scent like Clean Reserve’s Rain and accentuate with something more pronounced, like Tom Ford’s Vert d'Encens or Jo Malone’s Wood Sage & Sea Salt, depending on your mood. If you’re hesitant, why not try a touch of something different on a more intimate body part? Elbows, the patch of skin behind your ear, the crook of your neck—all make for pleasant olfactory surprises when giving hugs. Or, consider different scents for different areas of your skin. There’s no loss here; at the very least, you smell a bit off-brand for a day.
