We all need a good break some time. And if we don’t have ‘some time’ in the conventional sense of a two-week long tropical fare several bodies of water away from home, consider a home-based retreat. Breaking away from the world outside and retreating to your home may seem like a familiar task for the homebody, but that is not the intent. Beyond the usual benefits of a home-based retreat is the opportunity to recalibrate one’s spatial awareness. Taking time off from the outside world is an exercise in examining one’s relationship to the places we frequent most; in fact, it is about noticing what we take for granted about our homes—that we are privileged enough to be safe from the natural elements, and we will not be forsaken as home is ours to keep—that it is a place where we can truly be at home with ourselves.
