Where Does the Sun Rise; Where Will the Moon Shine is a series of digital photographic collages made of found images by interdisciplinary artist Sebastian Mary Tay. These materials were extracted from old books, journals, magazines, and other print and screen media. Stripped of their original context and combined in a digital space through processes of scanning and collaging, the original subject matter of these articles which range from tourism to astronomy now function as symbols, constellations, and landscapes that signify the quality of our transcendental subjectivity. One where the confines of our world are acknowledged with a lingering wish to transcend. The resultant work embodies a common, unifying realm where the various components and their vastly different background narratives come together to form new meanings and new possibilities.
